Cleansing rituals and veterans’ reintegration in Mozambique

Mozambique ended in 1992 a long civil war, which often involved acts of brutality that largely surpassed local criteria and tolerance towards warfare and social behaviour. It was nevertheless striking, only some years later, the high degree of veterans’ reintegration – if not in their opportunities to earn a living, in their acceptation by fellow citizens and by the communities to which they once belonged.
