Policy and social inclusion in smart cities. A comparative urban study on Lisbon and Curitiba

Tomás Donadio is a PhD Candidate in Development Studies at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, member of the Urban Transitions Hub and the Environment, Territory and Society Research Group.

Through a comparative and genealogical epistemological approach, centered on critical urban studies, his thesis raises hypotheses about new paradigms in the development of smart cities focused on solving social problems, reducing inequalities and injustices and achieving the right to the city.

Contributed to the Lisbon City Hall’s urban mobility and public transport projects in the Pedestrian Accessibility Plan, to transform urban spaces and make Lisbon a City for All.
Research interests: urban studies, smart city, urban development, urban policy, social-spatial (in)justice, comparative analysis, qualitative methods.
