Dulce Freire (Alvaiázere / Leiria, 1969) graduated in History (1992) from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. At the same university, she completed his master’s degree (1998), whose dissertation was awarded the Mário Soares Foundation’s History Award (2000) and her PhD in Contemporary Economic and Social History (2008).
Since 1990, she has been directing research interests on topics related to rural history and agriculture in Portuguese and Iberian contexts. She has also been analyzing policies and institutional framework, social movements, memory, processes of technological innovation and social change. Looking forward to develop interdisciplinary researches, she has participated in different teams of investigation and route to theoretical and methodological instruments that allow to relate written, oral and visual testimonies.

She was a research fellow at the Institute of European Studies at the University of California at Berkeley (2001), and has conducted further research stays at the École de Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (2005) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (2006).
Since 2006, she has been chair (with Anton Schuurman) of the Rural History Network of the European Social Science Conference promoted by the International Institute of Social Science (Amsterdam, The Netherlands).
Other activities: secretary of Penelope magazine. Making and undoing History (1993-1998); editor of the magazine História (1994-2007); lecturer of chairs in the areas of Economic and Social History and Methodologies for Social Sciences (Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada, 1999-2008; Escola Superior de Educação de Setúbal, 2005); consultant of television series (1999-2000); collaborator in several publications, exhibitions and other initiatives with divulgation character.
