Social Condition, Urban Environment and Quality of Life – Prospective Observation of the City-Metropolis of Lisbon

The project “Social Condition, Urban Environment and Quality of Life – Observatory of the Lisbon Metropolis”, integrated in OBSERVA, led to the creation of an investigation and analysis of the same, favoring the cross-referencing of the information collected through the various research instruments implemented throughout the inter alia interviews with privileged observers and the prospective survey of key players.

The target population of the survey is composed of residents of the Metropolis of Lisbon aged 15 years or more. The subjects surveyed proportionally represent five age groups of both sexes: 15-23 years, 24-35 years, 36-49 years, 50-64 years, 65 years and over.

Quota sampling was chosen. The points of application of the questionnaire are housing (“neighborhoods”) selected according to their location in the territory of the Metropolis (“central” location in the municipality of Lisbon, or “peripheral”, outside the municipality of Lisbon) and (“quality” and “type of accommodation”). The sample is therefore not representative, and no results can be inferred for the whole Metropolis. On the other hand, it is more enlightening as regards the cleavages between center and periphery, between different housing conditions and between “neighborhoods” in the Lisbon Metropolis. The total sample size is of 826 respondents distributed by 23 quotas that represent other “neighborhoods” of the Metropolis.
